Keele Innovation Network showcased the practical power of artificial intelligence at its “Let AI Take the Strain” event on 27 November 2025.
The session cut through the hype surrounding AI and focused on real-world applications that organisations can adopt today.
Guest speaker Dom Cox, Founder of the AI development company InnerNova, explored how businesses are already achieving measurable gains through AI-driven productivity improvements, smarter analytics, and effective governance frameworks. He also highlighted common reasons why large AI initiatives struggle to deliver - most often because objectives aren’t clearly defined, data foundations are weak, or key stakeholders haven’t been engaged early enough.
Dr Marco Ortolani, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Keele University, offered insights into the cutting-edge AI research taking place within his team. His talk highlighted work on AI security, trust and confidence, the so-called “AI job-pocalypse,” and why keeping humans firmly in the development loop remains essential. Dr Ortolani also pointed to the wider digital transformation activity happening across the region, including projects from Keele University’s Digital Society Institute, and emphasised the role of national and international initiatives in shaping the future of AI.
The event brought together a lively mix of businesses from a wide range of industries, along with academic experts working at the forefront of AI. Attendees also enjoyed plenty of networking opportunities over a complimentary lunch - complete with excellent food and even better conversations.
